#Shelfie

October 15, 2020

The shelfie has become an increasingly popular hashtag on social media, full of calming aesthetics and go to products. We all want to know what’s on her shelf. Sharing what products you like to use can be so helpful. And also, creating a peaceful and pretty environment to be in while you get ready or do your makeup or skincare routine helps you to fell relaxed and positive.

I would like to get into some of my go to products, ones that I use almost every day and can’t get enough of. Let’s explore my shelfie. One of my favorite lip products ever is Fresh Sugar Lip Balm with SPF 15. These rich, creamy balms provide a hint of color, moisture for your lips and sun protection all in one. My go to colors are Honey, a warm nude tint, and Berry, a bold purple berry color. Both provide just a wash of color, and I like to use Honey for the work day and Berry to amp things up for the evening. Sticking with lip colors for the moment, allow me to introduce you to my lipsticks of choice! When Bite Beauty came out with their zodiac lipstick collection I was SO excited. And their color for Aries did not disappoint. A fiery orangey red color that goes on opaque and covers your lips in one swipe. It has a satin finish that I found faded to a more matte look after a couple of hours of wear. It is not drying in the least bit. And let me tell you, this lip color LASTS. You will get at least 6-8 hours of hydrating color. As an Aries who loves a bold, red lip, I wear this color all the time. Another favorite of mine is Smith & Cult Matte Stain in Demon Dazed. This is a gorgeous brick red, with terracotta earthy tones in it. This liquid lip color gives you a less bold look, making it the perfect red for the office or daytime activities. Smith & Cult claims another spot on my shelf, with their Marriage No. 2 lipstick. This super sexy red has shine and sparkle with its lacquer finish. I love to this color when I want a punchy lip that attracts ALL the attention (remember, I’m an Aries). Last but certainly not least in my lip department of the shelf, is Floss Beauty’s Lip Gloss in YUL. I received this gloss in a Birchbox and I have used it so much since! I sometimes have flashbacks to the early 2000s when I was obsessed with lip gloss and it was tacky, sticky, and my hair loved to get stuck to it, Well, this is not that. A super moisturizing gloss that gives a clear shine when worn alone or looks amazing layered over one of my many red lipsticks. No stickiness to be found!

A whole section of my shelf is devoted to Fenty Beauty. You really can’t go wrong purchasing their products! While I have many more items, two things I use all the time are Body Lava in Who Needs Clothes and the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 210. Body Lava is a liquid highlighter with an elegant shimmer that never fails to catch the light. I use it on my face and collarbones for a pop of highlight. During a time where a mask is your best accessory, adding some shimmer on your shoulders or collarbones adds some glam to your look. I cannot say enough words about how much I love the Pro Filt’r foundation. The 210 is the perfect match for my skin tone, with neutral undertones and the perfect blend between light and medium. It is silky smooth, medium coverage that can be built up, and also gently mattifies the skin and hides pores and imperfections while still looking like skin. And this stuff LASTS. I have worn it for 12 hours work days, and even jumped in a pool with it on after too much rose.  I highly recommend you go try it out!

Another brand that occupies real estate on my shelf with multiple products is another fave, Glossier. My first introduction to this company was with their perfume, a stunning scent simply entitled You. This perfume is absolutely amazing, whenever I wear it I get a ton of compliments about how good I smell. It has a musky scent that is formulated to adapt differently to each person’s skin chemistry. So, clearly, I smell good 😊 this scent lasts throughout a long day and wears the same as when you first spray in the morning. It is never overpowering, and has a clean overtone to it. Try it and you will not be disappointed. Another gamechanger from Glossier is their Bubblewrap eye and lip plumping cream. I don’t usually like to plump my lips, since they are already bigger to begin with, but this adds a nice hint of poutiness. What I use it for most often is for my eye area. I struggled with bags and dark circles, and this stuff really works. I also love Boy Brow. A must for shaping and perfecting your brows! I use the shade brown, which blends so nicely for me. It has a creamy formal that shapes and holds brows in place while still looking natural. I should have included this next item in my previous section of lip products, but it really wears many hats. Balm Dotcom is literally the bomb. I love the original, untinted and unscented for an ultra moisturizing feel. This balm can also be used for dry skin or cuticles. Last but certainly not least, Glossier’s Wowder is one of the best setting powders I have ever tried! I use light/medium for a flawless, matte finish. Never cakey or chalky and light as air on the skin!

Moving on to my miscellaneous part of my shelf! Right at the front of my shelf is my Nars Loose Illumination Powder in Orgasm. This cult favorite shade has been reinvented as a shimmering, fine loose pigment that makes your highlight visible from across the room (I love to be extra like this). It also works well as an eyeshadow or a blush. However, I typically use this for my highlight to shine as bright as possibly. Sticking with my love of sparkly things, I also use MAC Prep + Prime in Gold every time I’m going out. It sets your makeup and gives you a hint of shimmer at the same time! On the same note of talking about perfect skin, it always starts with a good base. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is a rich but light weight daily moisturizer that I love to start my routine with. You cannot go wrong by adding this to your routine! I follow that up with a few drops of Farsali Liquid Glass serum. I can’t get enough of the smooth, glowy look this gives. When I’m not in the mood for foundation, my go to pick is Dr. Jart Premium BB Beauty Balm in Medium/Deep. I primarily use this in the summer, as the shade works perfectly for my summer tan. It also has SPF 45 which is a huge plus. It provides some coverage while also smoothing and concealing. Another staple on my shelf is Bawdy Beauty CBD Butt Balm. This stuff is next level, silky soft and moisturizing and reviving. Can also be used all over and even on your face! Not going to lie, I love using it on my butt though. Booties deserve skincare too! Another item that has me feeling super luxurious is Indigo Eau de Parfum by Nest. This warm and spicy scent is hypnotizing and rich. I love it for the fall and winter and nights out. Now, I have MANY eyeshadow palettes. No such thing as too many, right? But some of the ones I find myself gravitating towards the most are from Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmetics and Pat McGrath. From ABH I love their Sultry palette for everyday neutrals, and the Subculture palette for darker, smokier looks. I had wanted to own a Pat McGrath Labs palette forever, and I finally do. The perfect one for me was the Mothership III Subversive palette. This palette combines rich jewel tones with neutrals that can be perfect for dressing down or up. The pigment is silky and buildable and does not fade!

Lastly. I want to talk about the few things I did to make my makeup area a happy place while also looking nice. For my shelf itself, I repurposed a cake stand I found at Marshalls. The slate color with a hint of shimmer looks luxe and fits everything perfectly. I then found an adorable succulent at a local garden shop that they had planted in a champagne flute. How chic! I love plants and this a quirky touch to the area. I also repurposed a Diptyque Mimosa candle that I had burned to completion. I soaked the candle jar in hot water until the wax was soft, and then scraped it out with a fork. Then I washed it with soap and water, let it dry, and now it became the perfect holder for some of my makeup brushes. I added an actual candle as well, the Stone Fruit candle form Otherland Co.  It smells amazing, with notes of peach skin, broen sugar, and beach plum. The scent fills up the whole room while im doing my makeup and getting ready and makes you feel so relaxed and happy. It also adds an aesthetic touch with its fun pink colors and artwork logo.
